- New research suggests the right amount of slumber might keep Alzheimer's disease at bay (great, now that is one more thing my hypochondriac self needs to worry about)
- Studies have shown that sleep deprivation is associated with increased risk of weight gain and obesity as well as type 2 diabetes.
- A chronic sleep-restricted state can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight gain.
- A 2001 study at Chicago Medical Institute suggested that sleep deprivation may be linked to more serious diseases, such as heart disease and mental illnesses, such as psychosis and bipolar disorder (uh oh, watch out Darren!! I may be going crazy!!)
- Sleep deprivation can be used as a means of interrogation that some believe will constitute torture when used to excess.
Hopefully during this weekend I can catch some Zzzzz's....but if not, I've made it this far without sleep - what's another couple of weeks? (Oh goodness I hope it doesn't last another couple of weeks....Ack!)
